Documentation. Last day of work

I like the asymetrical positioning of the picture behind the hanging leaves. Im makes you have to go into the opening to see what the other half of the photo looks like.I originally wanted to cover the whole front of the viewing area with leaves but had to take some down because as i walked through the leave my hair was getting pulled out.

Hanging leaves from the ceiling was more difficult than i thought, specifically because there was three other people using the ladder.

I felt like i was a robot sorting and gluing each individual leaf to the next.

The focus

I beleive that most of the business students thought i was crazy as i grabbed all the leaves and stuffed them into a grbage bag on the side of olin.

PROPOSAL

 1. using a photo from out miniature gallery i want to recreate the experience i had while being under the surface. It will be an interactive peice. The viewers will have the chance to be outside and below the surface.

 2. Im interested in hom things reflect off surfaces. I will lay a bed of rocks on the floor and cast shadows on the surface. I will suspend flashlights close to the ceiling and create a collage of leaves to suspend in between. I wanted to use textures to enhance shadow.

 3. Surfaces remind me of the infinate amount of textural opportunity. I’m focussing on how colors can coinside and contrast textures. I plan to make three pilesa different colored textures. There will be one red/ yellow pile full of leaves, one green pile with grass and moss, and one grey pile of sticks and bark.

Homework: The Word

Thinking about surface made me more interested in what was under it than what was above.

I wanted to become something that grew from the inder layers of the leaves covering the ground. Covering myself with leaves was meant to represent the surfacing of something out of earth. I was the surface, a lifless surface hidden under another surface. I understand now the layering of an infinate number of surfaces above and below where we stand on the ground. Its the understanding between the layers of life and death, what really is the surface of the world and the surfaces that the “line” of somethings life travels.

Leaves crushed.

What is under the leave?

Mixtures of surfaces. All surfaces have textures so to me texture can be used to show a surface. Im really interested in the combination on natural textures; specifically the contrast between back and the inner layers of the trees.

The peeling off of bark created a layering effect as the sections of the bark seperated from the inner rings.

The combination of thin sticks, leaves, and bark create a pattern of overlapping shapes.

I like how the wood has been decomposing and the surface is breaking off.

Blurred vision. All the surfaces seem to be so clear and distinct that i decided to put my blurred vision on through the lens of my camera and see what i came up with. Seeing images so far from the real view was interesting to me.

Homework: The Word

After thinking about what surfaces i was able to use i came to see that they didnt all need to be on the ground.

I walked throught the woods with my head completly tilted up. At first it was hard trying to walk without looking so the pictures are somewhat blurry but after a while it they came out clear. It was interesting to me how the trees seemed to be breaking the surface of the atmosphere. Its an invisable break but the seperation in clear.

Homework: The Word

Where do surfaces end?

Is a surface something you can touch? I changed my view of what a surface was. It wasn’t just what was below my feet anymore. A surface can be something that you can’t see but it doesn’t mean that it does not exist.  I thought about all the surfaces on the particles that went through my lungs.
